Atelier : Création de fresques ukrainiennes Petrykivka

Every Wednesday in November, Mariia Matokhniuk will be coming to the museum to run a workshop on creating a Ukrainian fresco using Petrykivka painting techniques.

‘This style takes its name from the village of Petrykivka in eastern Ukraine, where it was born. Its historical roots go back many centuries to ancient traditions of mural painting. Petrykivka painting is listed as a cultural heritage site and is protected by UNESCO. This art reflects the originality of the popular vision of the world and the depth of its traditional philosophy: painting symbolises man's unity with nature and the idea of the cycle of life. In practice, this idea is expressed in the historic tradition of the inhabitants of Petrykivka of renewing their murals every spring after the cold of winter’. (Mariia Matokhniuk)

The workshops take place over the course of the day, with the materials being prepared and put in place in the morning, from 10am to 12pm, and the fresco being created and decorated in the afternoon, from 2pm to 5pm.

These workshops are free and must be booked in advance with the museum.

They are open to all, but children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult.
