This exhibition emerged from a shared vision among several individuals: Jérémie Brigand, the President of the Communauté de Communes du Pays Châtillonnais; Cécile Zicot, the museum director; and Marie-Anne, the daughter of Marc Bohan. The exhibition “Marc Bohan: Les Années Dior” offers a unique opportunity to explore the remarkable legacy of Marc Bohan, who served as the artistic director of Christian Dior from 1961 to 1989. Through iconic pieces and rare testimonies, this retrospective reveals the work of a designer whose visionary talent had a profound impact on the history of fashion.

Une rose déssinée par Marc Bohan
A Conversation Between Fashion and Art
Marc Bohan has never ceased to draw on the artistic avant-garde to nourish his approach to clothing. His collections reflected a fluid modernity, while subtly incorporating references to contemporary trends. His friendship with artists such as Niki de Saint Phalle testifies to this constant exchange between fashion and art, an essential dialogue that helped make haute couture a form of cultural expression in its own right.
Flowers have always occupied an essential place in Christian Dior's universe. Marc Bohan, a worthy heir to this tradition, has drawn inspiration from them in his creations, paying tribute to their delicacy and symbolism through sublime watercolors of roses.

Marc Bohan dessinant dans sa maison de Châtillon-sur-Seine. Collection privée de Marc Bohan.
Marc Bohan and Châtillon-sur-Seine
Marc Bohan was not only immensely talented but also deeply attached to Châtillon-sur-Seine, the town he adopted as his own. In 1987, he purchased a mansion there, which was formerly a convent dating back to 1630. His frequent walks through the narrow streets of the city and his affection for the surrounding countryside reflect a strong bond with the region, a sentiment shared by the local residents. This retrospective goes beyond merely celebrating a couturier; it honors a man who was discreet, humble, and profoundly human. His death in September 2023 has left a significant void, but his legacy continues to thrive through this exhibition.
